The Broula King Gold Project is a short-term gold mine near Bumbaldry in Central West NSW about midway between Grenfell and Cowra. The mine operators, Resource Base Limited, engaged Sustainable Energy Design to ensure they had enough power available to start the power-hungry grinding mill needed to tackle the increasingly hard ore.
SED’s work involved:
- Upgrading the existing 800kVA diesel generator set
- Installing a new 250kVA diesel generator set
- Setting up a control system to ensure the two generators operate in parallel as required
The major challenge was ensuring the old diesel generator worked consistently with the new control system. SED identified an issue with the existing alternator and replaced the faulty component. The generators are now up and running efficiently and gold is being extracted as planned.
